The end of the world

個人覺得十分催
淚的一首老歌，歌詞雖簡卻頗令人玩味。


不過奇怪的是，廣播電台介紹中說此歌乃歌手為紀念同學之作，然而我在網路查到的資料卻不是如此。如下：

「The end of the
world」是1963年相當受歡迎的一首歌，曾是錢櫃雜誌 (Cashbox，現已停刊 )該年度的年終排行冠軍曲，也是鄉村女歌手Skeeter
Davis唯一的傳世之作。從內容看來，這又是一首失戀的情歌，但原作曲者乃是因為父親逝世，覺得猶如世界末日一般而寫出這首歌。Skeeter
Davis的演唱平實而動人，而且自己擔任和聲，成就了一首流行經典。


歌詞的內容，彷彿也很簡單：一個女孩在愛人離去之後，懷疑世界怎麼能夠繼續存在、萬物怎麼能夠繼續運作；對她來說，世界末日已經降臨，因為，她已經是孤單
一人，再也沒有一個可依靠的肩膀……。


而演唱這首歌的女歌手 Skeeter Davis 卻表示，這首歌並不僅是一首小女孩所唱的哀怨情歌，更蘊涵著關於死亡的凝重命題。
